Event Information

This class is intended to open space for individuals to explore or develop their own meditation practice within a group setting. It is the facilitator’s intent to help build a supportive community by getting to know one another and sharing our thoughts and ideas. Everyone will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their own curiosity about or experience with meditation. The facilitator will invite members to share their practices as well as offer guidance and education around a variety of supplementary meditation techniques. We will share a collective practice each class and there will be time for reflection together to talk about how to integrate our practices into our daily lives. This class is trans and queer facilitated and it is a safe space for everyone. If you have interest in starting or maintaining a meditative practice, please feel free to join us! All levels are welcome.

Meditation is experienced in a variety of ways and it can look a little bit different for everyone. There is a common misconception about meditation that peacefulness is achieved when a person is sitting still in silence. This misconception can often lead many people to believe that they are ‘doing it wrong’ when their own experience differs from this idea. The truth is, we can all do it, and you’re probably already doing it throughout your day without even noticing! Sometimes meditation is certainly peaceful, and other times it is uncomfortable. We can learn to be with what arises. Meditation can be a formal practice that develops over time and is well sustained with both intention from an individual and guidance from others.

Elias Sol has been facilitating yoga and meditation since 2020. His curiosity about yoga and meditation stemmed from his interest and studies in psychology and neuroscience. His formal meditation practice began in 2016 when he first visited a vipassana meditation center while living in Colorado Springs. Since then, he has studied under a number of teachers and received his 200 and 500 hour yoga teacher training certifications from the Raja Hatha School of Yoga in Madison, WI with Amy Pearce-Hayden. Elias is currently studying here in Milwaukee, WI under Shrastri Meg Lucks at The Heart Revival Center for Yoga and Buddhism. Aside from facilitating yoga and meditation, Elias is also in graduate school for clinical mental health and works full-time for a non-profit family service agency as a resiliency specialist, providing one-on-one trauma services to individuals in our community. He is a lifelong lover of movement and trains running, cycling, and climbing all year round to prepare for hiking mountains around the world. While at home, Elias appreciates spending time with his dog, cooking, reading, journaling and gardening. Elias is a part of the trans and queer community and it is his intention to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone to explore their own practice within a group setting.
