Adventure Rock Rules & Guidelines

Rock climbing is a dangerous sport. To ensure that climbing at Adventure Rock is an enjoyable experience for everyone, we ask all participants to adhere to the following:
Visitor Requirements
  • All visitors must complete a “Visitor Agreement” form and check in at the front desk.
  • Orientations and skill checks are mandatory for facility use.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • While Adventure Rock staff may monitor the facilities, staff do not provide active or regular supervision of your actions. Your safety is your responsibility.
  • Always double-check your gear and safety systems.
  • Report unsafe equipment or behavior to staff immediately.

 

CLIMBING CHECKS
  • Participants must pass an autobelay, top rope, and/or lead check conducted by Adventure Rock staff before using these systems.
  • You must be 14 or older to complete any climbing checks without supervision.

 

SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN
  • Children 13 and under must always be directly supervised. Supervision requirements:
  • Ages 5 and under: within arm’s reach.
  • Ages 6–9: within speaking distance.
  • Ages 10–13: Always within sight.
  • Children 13 and under must be assisted by someone aged 14 or older who has completed the proper checks for the appropriate activity
  • Exceptions apply for participants in Adventure Rock programs.

 

BELAY AND CLIMBING STANDARDS
  • Proper belay technique, as determined by staff, is required. Belayers must stand while belaying.
  • Staff may revoke belay privileges at their discretion.
  • Certain belay devices (e.g., body belays, figure eights, munter hitches) are prohibited.

 

SAFETY AND CONDUCT
  • Use of the facility under the influence of intoxicating substances is prohibited.
  • Keep equipment, food, and drinks off padded flooring.
  • Store personal belongings in lockers, cubbies, or vehicles. Overnight locks are not allowed.
  • Headphones are prohibited while using ropes or autobelays.
  • Running and non-climbing-related activities are not permitted in climbing areas.

 

CLIMBING AND GEAR
  • Shirts and footwear are required at all times.
  • Only UIAA-approved climbing gear is allowed and must be used per manufacturer guidelines.
  • The minimum rope length for lead climbing is 35 meters.
  • Adventure Rock is not responsible for the use of personal equipment.
  • Climbing shoes are not permitted in restrooms.
 
CLIMBING ETIQUETTE
  • No bouldering in roped areas.
  • Do not walk under climbers on autobelays, top ropes, lead climbs, or bouldering walls.
  • Share climbing spaces, take turns and respect others.
  • Avoid bypassing climbers, starting climbs too close to others, or monopolizing routes.
  • Seek permission before offering advice or beta to other climbers.
  • Use respectful language and maintain a courteous atmosphere.
  • Avoid discussing contentious topics or using offensive language.

 

Adventure Rock reserves the right to ask any person to stop any behavior that is considered dangerous, unsanitary, or unpleasant. Failure to observe these rules may result in your dismissal from the facility.
